Success 2 me means being in the right path.
Having Done what my creator wanted me to.
Having done all that a son ought to do to his parents and shun what they hate.
Keeping people away from my problems.

To me success is being in the righ path in here (In this world) and to be in the best destination there (The next world).

Success is self esteem in both worlds.

That bit about fun and entertainment is my biggest weakness. I find it hard to plan on having fun. I actually feel sort of guilty for spending on having fun, both in terms of money and time.Well I'll work on that, thnks for the wonderful piece. I'll read each of your articles. Keep it up!!

These are my own definition of success;

1. Success is what we attract by the person we become
2 Success is meant to be attracted and not pursued.
3. Success is a process and not an event
4. Success is not accidental
Success is found within and not without. From my personal life experience i left African to Australia thinking it will solve my quest for success. I later discovered that affluency is not success. We need to look deep down within us and discovered our purpose in life. When that purpose is pursued with passion and achieved then we are successful.
Success is a journey and i hope we all find true success.

Like beauty, I believe success is in the eye of the beholder. There is no absoloute criteria for success. If you establish your own criteria, and you meet it, then you are are success in your eyes. An event to celebrate, regardless of what others think.

Too often in society, we have a criteria of success pushe donto us. And when we cant meet it, we get stressed, which leads to depressed and other illnesses.

While we have some responsibility to our fellow man and woman, eg safety, we should be free to develop and live by our own criteria of success, and be happy.

However, the trouble with success, is that when we think we have met it, another criteria of success comes into our mind, and we are on another journey.

Does this mean that success is a journey and not a destination??? Im not sure... What do others think?

@ George - We should set our own standards and goals. Achieving that is what success is all about as Brenda put it. However, do not hesitate to learn from others who are better than you in your chosen field. I am sure Obama did his research on previous presidents and even lifted a quote or two to make a point. Learning from others, in my opinion, is ok and brilliant. Letting them dictate our level of happiness is a totally different ball game.

“Success therefore as per my eye is a measure by you of yourself relative to where you are compared to where you want to be. Its nothing others can measure for you.” I never looked at it that way. I was probably doing what other people do when gauging success, which is to look at other 'successful people'.

Just today I thought of asking a very smart guy what IDE he uses when programming Perl. I think somewhere deep down the reasoning was something like:
- He is successful
- I want to be where he is
- If I can attempt to follow, I can be where he is
- which tools does he use

and then I arrived at the question that I almost asked, "Which IDE do you use when programming in Perl". I didn't ask the question, somehow I felt I was on my way there, and I already knew the answers to other more important questions that will actually aid in my journey.

What, success is not at the end of the tunnel, "I read somewhere that happiness is not a destination, its a way.Do what makes you happy and you rest assured you are on the right path." (Kageniii). But I bet most of us think it is at the end, and we forget to enjoy the journey or in fact realise that we are successful!
