I believe we all have fears, its one way to know that you are not alien…how we deal with our fears is what determines whether we remain on track towards achieving our daily goals. We need to face evry monster no matter what shape it takes. One of the reasons why the grave remains one of the richest places in the world, is beacase of fear, we fear to stretch from our comfort zones and end up sitting on great potential that we later take to the grave….

Although I’m reluctant to start a blog post reply with the somewhat-cliche words “very good post” the reality is that this is indeed, a very thoughtful and well-researched post.

As a public speaking training expert with many years of experience and many students, it’s clear that by resisting fear we give it more power over us. Again, the cliche “face your fears” seems appropriate here, but it’s not just a jump into the deep end of the pool sink-or-swim approach I’m suggesting here.

A progressive reconditioning approach is what I’d suggest. Those who posted the False Evidence Appearing Real replies are on the right track because – and here come another cliche – many fears that hold us back in our lives are just “all in our head” and simply manufactured in our ongoing experience.

Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear make you a captive but I must confess that i have my fears too.. and you know what the thing you are afraid of comes to happen in your life some day.. Job in the bible was afraid that one day he would be attached by the devil that is why he offered offerings on behalf of his children just in case they had annoyed God then we all know what happened to him Job 3:25…
I stii have one fear that am dealing with.. I refuse to be a captive of fear..

Thanks Dan for your inspiring blog, you are such a good researcher and brain. I think i dont succeed coz of fear and low self esteem many opportunities have come but I fear tuckling them. May I ask- does honesty sometimes trigger fear? Im so honest that I feel fear if I happen to do something bad.

Hi Dan,
I have co existed with fear for the longest time. I think as someone mentioned, it is a by product of low self esteem as well as little exposure. We have to master this monster called fear and as one inspirational writer said, ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’. A posotive mindset as well as learning no to sweat the small stuff goes a long way in minimising fear.This year my theme is to ‘break my psychological barries’ coz truly that is what fear is good at, creating barriers in your mind that prevent you from living life to your full potential. Again beautiful blog.

Daniel, that’s a great piece-i am a victim of fear, fear of many things both known and unknown and i have realized that i have to face my fear/s head-on. Sometimes fear grips us without knowing and i guess this is the most difficult to deal with.

Thanks Daniel and everyone for your thoughts. Fear is really deadly. Think it comes in many forms than we think. It limits me to do a lot. Someone mentioned that the opposite of fear is love…….maybe courage is the opposite? I pray for more gutts to face the fear.

HI,well i guess i have a very odd fear that i don’t think has as many people as the one’s listed above.My greatest fear in life is LOW SELF ESTEEM.I believe I’ve seen it do more severe damage to the human character than any of the ones above.For instance, how many young people have engaged themselves in drug abuse just because they cant come out and appreciate them selves by overcoming their difficulties and looking at the bright side of their personalities.Personally i dread any situation where i’ll end-up feeling inadequate or out of place.

1.i love how joyce Meyer describes fear, its F.E.A.R, an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real, this is that paralyins fear that makes you so afraid you cant move on with anything because of perceived failure, rejection lonileness etc……..

2. someone quoted some verse before about God not having given us a spirit of fear but has given unto us a spirit of power, of love and a sound mind- i once heard the word for sound mind used in that verse literally means self esteem and self control…….may not do the church thing quite often but i never forget those two things

Your article about fear is truly a master piece. It has invoked in me a new form of energy to confront and face life challenges with more courage and determination. Fear suppresses one’s ability to achieve and also reverses God’s purpose of our creation. It’s only after Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit that they became fearful of their nakedness. Thus sin brings fear into our life.
